Who Are We?

Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul USA, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of our founder, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul.

The National Council supports our 4,000+ local Councils and Conferences throughout the United States by providing our members with resources, spiritual formation, and best practices so they can assist millions of people in need.

Do you or someone you know need help? Please give us a call!

What we do

Through the generous donations of St. Cecilia parishioners, we’re able to help our Island neighbors in need manage temporary financial hardships caused by the loss of a job, medical emergency, car breakdown, or other unforeseen circumstance. Typical assistance includes:

• Help pay for rent or utilities

• Provide gift cards for gas or food

• Reimburse medical bills or car repair

“By my works, I will show you my faith.”

-James 2:18

How we do it

Members of the Society in our parish personally visit our neighbors, pray with them, listen to them, and help in any way we can. Our efforts include:

• Monthly meetings

• Spiritual reflection & faith sharing

• Providing short-term financial assistance to those in need

• Coordinating food donations for Helpline House

• Sponsoring the annual St. Cecilia Christmas Giving Tree

“Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”

-Matthew 18:20

How you can help

The poor don’t only live in distant places, they often live right next door. You can help us help them by:

• Continuing your generous SVdP donations every month

• Praying that God will bless us in our works

• Joining our group to be a face of Christ in the community

“Just as you did it to the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”

-Matthew 31:40

Turning faith into action

In 2025, thanks to the generosity of St. Cecilia parishioners, our SVdP Conference was able to help 146 Bainbridge Island neighbors in need with:

• More than $38,000 in financial assistance

• Nearly 3,500 pounds of food donated to Helpline House worth $7,400

• 172 tags from our Giving Tree worth more than $7,000
